MANILA, Philippines - The South Luzon Tollway Corp. said vehicles traveling along the new South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) have lower maintenance cost of 64 percent compared to the old highway.
SLTC, operator of the SLEX, cited their study that showed the new eight-lanes SLEX from Alabang to Calamba costs vehicle owners only P5.80 per kilometer for maintenance.
The old SLEX had a higher P9.09 vehicle maintenance per kilometer and the new highway gives a 64-percent savings of P3.29 per km for private motorists and public utility vehicle operators who travel along the SLEX.
With the impending new toll rates of P2.73 per km., the SLTC explained that motorists still come out with P0.56, already half the cost of an SMS message.
The report noted that transportation spending among Filipinos has grown due to the increasing prices of basic commodities, vehicle registration to maintain their car’s licenses, gasoline, toll, parking and other expenses.
