Zamboanga Sibugay governor's radio station bombed

- Roel Pareño -

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A radio station in Zamboanga Sibugay was bombed late Monday in what police suspect to be an apparent bid to stop it from criticizing the opponents of Gov. George Hofer, who owns it.

Senior Superintendent Federico Castro Jr., Zamboanga Sibugay police director, said a passerby was slightly wounded by shrapnel from an MK2 grenade lobbed at the 103.1 FM Magic radio station in Barangay Katibay, Titay town.

Two men riding tandem on a white-yellow motorcycle hurled the grenade in front of the radio station, which is located near Hofer’s house. The grenade, however, fell short and went off at the gate.

Castro quoted Kim Porras, manager of the radio station, as saying that they had received threats to slow down on criticizing Hofer’s political rivals.
