MANILA, Philippines - The presidential bid of former defense secretary Gilbert Teodoro got another boost with two Cabinet members seeking positions in the May elections throwing their support behind him.
Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera said Teodoro is emerging as the obvious choice in Quezon as well as by thinking Filipinos who are concerned with candidates’ qualifications.
Devanadera is seeking a seat in the next Congress representing the first district of Quezon.
She pointed out that results of surveys and mock polls in several leading colleges and universities showed Teodoro as the students’ choice.
“These students are thinkers and idealists. They see Gibo as the best among presidential candidates. I believe that would start the surge of support for him,” Devanadera said.
In Iloilo, former justice secretary and presidential chief legal adviser Raul Gonzalez vowed that he would exert every effort to ensure Teodoro’s victory in the province.
He said he could deliver 300,000 votes for the former defense chief come election time.
Iloilo has a voting population of 800,000, according to a recent survey.
