Iligan City , Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration has subjected a US national here to a deportation proceeding and inclusion in the watch list following violations of the immigration law.
Maclin Lanto, BI area director for Regions 10 and 13 identified the US national as Jeffrey Alans Evans.
Evans is now the subject of deportation proceedings following a raid in an internet cafe here which he allegedly operates and has been recruiting Filipinos for employment.
Investigation showed that Evans is president and managing director of Team Sir Jeff Corp. which is engaged in internet marketing and outsourcing services, according to Lanto.
Evans possessed only a tourist visa which prohibits him from doing business in the country, said Lanto.
He submitted himself to the custody of BI agents who sought the assistance of the local police in conducting the raid. He is now in the Bureau of Immigration detention center in Davao City.
In keeping with all directives issued by Commissioner Nonoy Libanan, Lanto also said the bureau in all the regions have strictly enforced Libanan’s orders, such as: campaign against fixing and extortion at the bureau’s offices, escort service rackets at the airports, campaign against transnational crimes. Quoting Libanan, Lanto added there is now an Interpol database that helps the agency track, arrest and halt the entry of foreign fugitives and other undesirable aliens.
Libanan, for his part said that the wide-ranging reforms paid dividends when the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC) ranked the bureau in the top three among 100 government agencies that complied with the Integrity Development Plan of the PAGC. The BI, Libanan noted, has been delisted from the top most problematic agencies in government.
