NPAs torch heavy equipment in Surigao

-

DAVAO CITY , Philippines  – Suspected New People’s Army rebels burned over the weekend several construction heavy equipment in Sitio Kabalawan, Barangay Anahao Daan, Tago town in Surigao del Sur.

According to the Police Regional Office 13, the incident took place in the remote Sitio Kabalawan in Tago on Sunday wherein at least 30 communist guerrillas were said to have been clad in camouflage uniforms, arrived in the area and burned a bulldozer and back hoe owned by Dole Philippines, Inc.

Dole reportedly is at present laying the necessary groundwork for the establishment of a banana plantation in Tago when the incident took place.

The back hoe and the bulldozer were said to have been used in preparing the land for Dole’s banana plantation.

Elements of the Surigao provincial police office have conducted a massive pursuit operation against the rebels who were believed to have fled to the neighboring towns to seek refuge. – Edith Regalado
