Drunk farmer killed in North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY , Philippines   – A drunken Muslim farmer in Carmen, North Cotabato was killed while 20 others were injured when a fragmentation grenade he was playing with, accidentally exploded yesterday dawn while he and his relatives were busy preparing for the wedding of a family member.

Inspector Winston Seniel, chief of the Carmen municipal police, said the slain farmer, 26-year-old Karkay Minangga, was blasted to smithereens when he accidentally removed the pin of a Mark II fragmentation grenade he pulled from his pocket to show the explosive to his relatives.

“Parts of his body were thrown around the blast site,” Seniel told The STAR.

Seniel said the 20 injured relatives of Minangga were rushed to the North Cotabato Provincial Hospital for medication.

Seniel said the incident marred the wedding in the same village that day of a relative of Minangga. – John Unson, Ramil Bajo
