'Shabu trading post' raided in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Police and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) swooped down on a “shabu trading post” here last Thursday.

“It was well entrenched and had closed circuit television cameras to monitor the activities inside and outside (the drug den),” PDEA-Cordillera spokesman Emelyn Fama said.

The raiding team seized sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia, chemicals, an unlicensed firearm and other deadly weapons, and documents of bank accounts of suspected shabu earnings.

Arrested were Alekan Madid, 24, and his wife, Snauray Madid, as well as two minors aged 15 and 17, said to be the children of Unos Darang, the alleged leader of the drug syndicate.

Darang’s wife, Hanipa, who was also allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, was not around during the raid, Fama said.

The group, according to Fama, got its supply of shabu from Cavite, the cities of Dagupan and Urdaneta in Pangasinan, Culiat in Quezon City, Quiapo in Manila, and Taguig City. – Artemio Dumlao
