4 hurt in NPA attack in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY – A civilian and three policemen were wounded when 50 suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels attacked government buildings, including police and fire stations, in Tampakan, South Cotabato Thursday night.

A number of rebels were also wounded in a 30-minute firefight that ensued after the attack.

In a report, Senior Superintendent Robert Kiunisala, provincial police director, identified the wounded lawmen as SP03 Rolando Rejas, PO3 Alex Bernal and PO2 Armando Deseles, and the civilian as Clarito Canieto, an ambulance driver of the municipal social welfare and development office.

Kiunisala said the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

In Davao City, at least seven soldiers were wounded Thursday afternoon when their eight-vehicle convoy struck a landmine believed planted by NPA rebels in a remote village in Paquibato district. – Ramil Bajo, John Unson and Edith Regalado
