New Bicol police chief designated
LEGAZPI CITY – Chief Superintendent Paterno Bangui has taken over the Bicol police command in an acting capacity after Senior Superintendent Roberto Bondoc reached the age for mandatory retirement.
Bagui was the former deputy police director of Region 12 prior to his new assignment.
Philippine National Police chief Director General Avelino Razon, in his speech during the turnover ceremony, underscored the PNP’s four-point agenda – counter-insurgency, anti-criminality, anti-terrorism, and internal reform.
Razon commended Bondoc for his performance, saying though that “in our line of work, good is sometimes never enough.”
“The campaign for peace and order is never done. Threats to peace and security continue to face our communities and there seems to be no end to the challenges to law enforcement,” he said.
Razon said that for the Bicol region “to thrive progressively and keep in step with the rest of the regions in the country, it must be able to sustain an environment that is safe and peaceful.”
Last April 5, four New People’s Army hit men killed in an ambush Superintendent Narciso Guarin, deputy chief of the personnel division at Camp General Simeon Ola here, while on his way to report for work.
Reports said Guarin earned the rebels’ ire after four of their comrades were killed in an encounter in Bulan, Sorsogon in 2004 when Guarin was the commanding officer of the 508th Police Mobile Group.
