Laguna cops still clueless on PUP coed’s rape-slay

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Police are still clueless on the rape-slay of a 20-year-old female Bachelor of Science in Education student of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) whose body was fished out of Laguna Lake in Calamba City last March 3.

SPO4 Filipina Manaig, who is handling the case, admitted that the killing of PUP senior student Trinidad Elauria, a resident of Barangay San Juan, Calamba City, is still unsolved.

“As of now, we are still conducting an investigation and we hope that there is someone who will give us vital information,” Manaig said.

“For the meantime, we are still waiting for the results of the DND test from Camp Crame,” she added.

Manaig said Elauria was last seen alive on March 2 when she sought permission from her mother that she would go out with a classmate.

Elauria failed to return home that day, prompting her parents to contact her friends and later report her disappearance to the police.

The following day, the Calamba police got a phone call informing them about the body of a half-naked woman floating in Laguna Lake in Barangay Looc.

Elauria’s parents positively identified the stab-ridden body to be their daughter’s. The coed was believed to have been raped before she was killed.

Manaig said they invited three men – a certain JM, Niño and Anto – for questioning but had to release them for lack of evidence. – Ed Amoroso
