Comelec official shot dead

Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna – A provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) officer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while inside a subdivision in General Trias, Cavite yesterday afternoon, police said.

Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, Cavite police director, identified the victim as Joseph del Rosario, 46, resident of Belmont Subdivision, Barangay Pasong Kawayan 2 and a Comelec official assigned in Bacoor, Cavite.

Posadas said Del Rosario was having a drinking session with his neighbors when two armed men suddenly appeared and shot him once with a .45 caliber pistol around 3:45 p.m.

Del Rosario was rushed to MV Santiago Medical Center in Trece Martirez but he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians due to a lone gunshot wound in the face. – Arnell Ozaeta
