LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A day after he was proclaimed winner, a newly elected barangay chairman in Bangued, Abra was killed in an ambush, police said.
Reports said the victim, Fernando Sabalo, 32, newly elected chairman of Barangay Cosili East, was declared dead before dawn yesterday in a hospital in San Fernando, La Union where he was rushed after the ambush.
Sabalo’s companion, identified as Desiderio Sabaot, 28, was wounded in the attack.
Senior Superintendent Alex Pumecha, Abra police director, informed Superintendent Eugene Martin, Cordillera police director, that murder charges were being readied against the three arrested suspects, identified as Jestoni Baay, Marcelo Tarinay and Erick Tadeo.
