Bulusan folk alerted on more lahar

- Cet Dematera -

LEGAZPI CITY – Disaster control officials have alerted villagers around Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon on more lahar due to an intertropical convergence zone that may bring more rains over the Bicol region.

Raffy Alejandro, Bicol director of the Office of Civil Defense, said heavy rains are expected due to the weather disturbance and evacuees who have returned to their homes should be vigilant.

“I told (them) to immediately leave their places should (there be) heavy rains,” he told The STAR.

At least 276 families, or 1,596 people, were forced to evacuate three days ago when lahar swelled river channels and gullies in Barangays Monbon, Mapaso, Cogon and Patag, all in Irosin town.

Alejandro said these waterways are now being dredged to prevent the volcanic debris from piling up and endangering villagers during heavy rains.
