Army chief urges troops not to be 'saviors' of the Philippines

Army chief Lieutenant General Alexander Yano told his soldiers to beware of recruiters for destabilization efforts and added they should never consider themselves as 'messiahs.'

Yano said these soldiers should leave the service if ever they feel they want to 'save' the country.

During a conference in Cagayan de Oro City, Yano told company commanders, "I hope you understand military adventurism. We should not allow it."

He added military adventurism destroys not only the military but hinders the passage of the country.

"Let us not look at ourselves as the messiah or the savior," Yano said.
