LAMITAN, BASILAN – At least 16 people were rescued when their vessel caught fire off Borneo, near the Philippine border in Tawi-Tawi yesterday, a Navy official said.
Rear Admiral Emilio Marayag, Naval Forces Western Mindanao chief, said the vessel, M/V Katrina, caught fire while on its way to Bongao from Jolo and drifted 11 miles east of Hog Point off Borneo, which is 24 miles northwest of Sanga-Sanga, Tawi-Tawi, at dawn yesterday.
Marayag said the 16 passengers were rescued by, two foreign vessels. – Roel Pareño, Edu Punay
