BEIJING (AFP) - Eleven people died and 57 were injured on Sunday after a truck carrying 71 people headed for a fair overturned in southwest China's Yunnan province, state media reported.
The accident occurred at 8:20 am in Kafang town when the truck tried to mount a pavement and rolled over, Xinhua news agency said, citing local police.
Last year, more than 89,000 people were killed in traffic accidents on Chinese roads -- an average of about 245 a day, according to official figures.
However, the World Health Organisation has said China's road fatalities are under-reported and the real number of people killed each year could be far higher.
