4 kids hurt in pillbox blast

SANTIAGO CITY – Four male elementary pupils were critically injured after a Molotov bomb they found along the road suddenly exploded last Wednesday morning.

Dr. Roselyn Dadural, assistant medical officer of the Southern Isabela General Hospital, identified the four victims as Reden Agana, Nick Agana, Alexander Tugade, and Melvin Ferrer, all aged 12 and residents of Barangay Sinsayon here.

PO1 Gilbert Baquiran said it appears that what the children found was a pillbox or Molotov bomb, which they had tinkered with out of curiosity.

It is feared that some of the children may become blind due to shrapnel from the bomb.

Police investigators suspect that motorists may have thrown away the homemade bomb before reaching a nearby police checkpoint.     – Charlie Lagasca
