Baliuag mayor urges relief of cops involved in rubout

BALIUAG, Bulacan — Mayor Romeo Estrella demanded yesterday the relief of at least seven police officers here who were involved in the alleged shootout that killed two robbers and four civilians last week.

The identities of the policemen, however, remain unknown as the local police office has not yet submitted a report to the mayor a week after the incident.

In a letter addressed to Bulacan provincial police director Senior Superintendent Benedict Michael Fokno, the mayor asked for the immediate relief of Superintendent Jolly Dizon, this town’s police chief. He said it is necessary to counter the widespread perception that there is whitewash in the case.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is also set to summon Dizon to appear before their office and submit the names of the operatives who participated in the alleged rubout.

The four victims were buried last Sunday after their remains were autopsied. — Dino Balabo, Evelyn Macairan, Raisa Austral
