Iligan folk eager to get hold of ‘Arrovo’ bill

ILIGAN CITY — The public here is eager to get hold of the "Arrovo Bill" out of curiousity or as a collector’s item. Speculators claim it might fetch a price higher than its face value later.

The "Arrovo Bills" are P100 bills which bear the incorrect spelling of President Gloria Arroyo’s name. Instead of Arroyo, the President’s surname was spelled "Arrovo."

Immediately after it was discovered a few days ago, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) ordered an investigation into the error to determine if the printing company could face liabilities.

However, the BSP said that even with the misspelled name of Mrs. Arroyo, the P100 bill is still legal tender and that the BSP has no plans of recalling the bill.

It was gathered here this morning that some bank clients have discreetly asked tellers if the "Arrovo Bill" has already been distributed for circulation here. — Lino dela Cruz
