P’sinan vice mayor, aide escape death

-
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — A vice mayor and his police security narrowly escaped death when their service vehicle was fired upon by still unidentified gunmen before midnight last Sunday in Barangay Salay, Manaoag.

Reports reaching the Pangasinan PNP provincial office yesterday said the service vehicle of Manaoag vice mayor Pedrito Garcia, a Toyota Revo van, was fired upon by the still unidentified gunmen on board an L-300 van.

Luckily, Garcia was not hit and his police security PO2 Myro Torres was almost injured if not for his bullet-proof vest.

Initial investigation showed the van was cruising the road when Torres noticed the parked red L-300 van without license plates. Sensing danger, Torres sped off and when about to enter the vice mayor’s residence, the gunmen opened fire.

Garcia was not injured during the attack while Torres’ vest was hit. Police said Garcia’s van bore multiple bullet holes after the attack. — Cesar Ramirez and Eva Visperas
