Ambulances rush to NPA clash site

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Did the communist rebels call for the ambulances?

Military authorities asked this question after three ambulances from hospitals in Cabanatuan City rushed to Sitio Bungar in Sabit, Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija a few hours after elements of the Army’s 75th Infantry Brigade clashed there with New People’s Army rebels.

Two soldiers, Lt. Virgilio Viterbo and Pfc. Junwin Jalasco, suffered minor injuries in the two-hour clash. Two rebels, identified as Jojo Supnet and James Barro, were captured.

Last Saturday, two ambulances were alleged to have assisted rebels wounded in a firefight in Barangay Dimatubo in San Luis, Aurora.

The ambulances were allegedly escorted by a Nueva Ecija politician, and their drivers presented a transit pass issued by an Aurora politician when they were stopped at checkpoints. Ding Cervantes, Ric Sapnu
