Ombudsman: P4-M assets of ex-AFP official ‘ill-gotten’

The Ombudsman for the Military has filed forfeiture proceedings for 10 properties valued at more than P4 million which a former military comptroller allegedly illegally acquired from 1984 to 1997.

Ombudsman prosecutor Avelino Macamus Jr. said investigation showed that Col. Tito Lim acquired the alleged ill-gotten wealth while serving as commanding officer of the 15th Finance Service Unit of the Armed Forces’ Central Mindanao Command from 1984 to 1992 and comptroller of the Southern Luzon and Northern Luzon Commands from 1994 to 1997.

Subjects of the forfeiture case include five lots totaling 1,210 square meters in Cotabato City, Batac, Ilocos Norte and Marikina City, and four residential buildings, one of them with a gym, lanai, basement and swimming pool.

Macamus said Lim’s assets were "manifestly out of proportion" considering that he got a total of only P1,468,867.80 in salaries from 1986 to 1997.

Lim has belied the allegation, claiming that his wife, Jane Tunina Lim, inherited most of the assets.
