Ex-BSP legal counsel stabbed dead by son

BALAGTAS, Bulacan — A former legal counsel of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) was stabbed dead by his own son, believed to be high on drugs, here last week, police said.

Police said Antonio Javelino, 70, a resident of Bago Bantay, Quezon City, along with his son, Jonathan, 31, visited his daughter in Barangay Panginay here last Thursday and decided to stay overnight.

At about 2 a.m., Philip Ong, Javelino’s son-in-law, told probers noise coming from the guestroom awakened him. When he opened the door, he said he saw Jonathan stabbing the old man.

The family, police said, was no longer interested in filing parricide charges against Jonathan who instead will be brought to a drug rehabilitation center or the National Center for Mental Health. James Mananghaya
