Estrada reinstates Namria executive

President Estrada has ordered the reinstatement of a top official of the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (Namria) who was allegedly illegally terminated last year.

In a memorandum, Mr. Estrada ordered Namria administrator Isidro Fajardo to effect the smooth and immediate reinstatement of Salvador Bonnevie with full payment of back wages and other benefits.

Bonnevie was sacked as director of Namria’s Coast and Geodetic Survey, tasked to undertake hydrographic surveys of the coun-try’s territorial waters to determine the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone in conjunction with the provisions of the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Seas.

Prior to his termination, Bonnevie was instrumental in the construction and printing of Charts 4723 and 4800 covering the Kalayaan Island group and the entire country.

He also effected the hydrographic survey of the equally controversial Scarborough Shoal.
