Isuzu really gets farther and farther. This time around Isuzu was in Cebu.Teaming up with SunStar, Isuzu staged the one-day 2004 Sunstar-Isuzu Challenge Treasure Quest, wherein the penultimate goal of each team was to accomplish the most number of challenges in a given time frame, in this case, four hours. As the challenge started, teams were to punch in their time cards at the bundy clock, then immediately given the tasks of their lifetime. It was truly a test of teamwork for each participating team, which were comprised of their vehicle and two to three members each. Who was to risk the value of teamwork if a fat cash prize was at stake?
So there were the teams, weaving through the roads and venues that Cebu City and the neighboring towns could offer, meeting and trying to conquer every thinkable challenge, whether it was physical, gastronomical, or even mind-boggling in nature. Participants deciphered puzzles written in SunStar newspapers, their vehicles underwent emission tests, they drank "concocted" beverages, went through obstacle courses and then got candies from a bug-laden containers, and even raced for five laps on go-karts, to name a few. The challenges also provided an opportunity for the teams to explore the beauty in the Visayas that is Cebu.
Going alongside the participants was also an eye-opener for the Cebu newcomer, especially for this writer who traces back its roots in Visayan soil. Being in Cebu even for just a day was like coming home. Aside from having the chance to experience its sights, smiles and sounds, this unique venture also lets one discover the uniqueness of this City in the South. Traffic congestion is noticably more bearable thanks to the increased presence of law enforcement personnel. Public utility vehicles also contribute much less smoke and noise while being more efficient. And even though Cebu also has its share of bustles, it will continue to be a great and exciting place, even in the years to come. No wonder the silent clamor for it to be the nations capital continues.
At another point, this also proves that Isuzu vehicles are the vehicle of choice for Cebuanos. Immensely popular are the Crosswind variants and the upscale D-MAX pickup. Sightings of this new offering from Isuzu are seen from all over the City. It is with this scenario that the Cebu market remains and will be important for Isuzu.
Theres more to Cebu than just danggit and otap. What comes with Cebu is its rich history that started a nation called the Philippines.
