Quezon City reopens fire-damaged Culiat bridge

MANILA, Philippines — Light vehicles may now use the bridge along Congressional Avenue in Quezon City that was damaged by a fire on July 11.
Mayor Joy Belmonte and Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the Culiat Bridge II yesterday following the load testing and inspection conducted by DPWH personnel.
“Buses and trucks are still prohibited from using the bridge as inspections continue to ensure the safety of all motorists,” city hall said.
“The Quezon City government continues to coordinate with the DPWH to ensure that the bridge can be safely used,” it added.
Motorists are advised to follow traffic advisories and regulations.
The bridge was closed on July 12 after a fire razed makeshift houses beneath the structure.
The city government has relocated the 38 families affected by the fire.
