MANILA, Philippines – The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has urged the public to have a meat-free Christmas celebration.
PETA vice president for international operations Jason Baker said Filipinos usually include meat dishes during noche buena.
“It costs us nothing to leave animals off our plates and instead enjoy tasty, nutritious and easy to prepare vegan meals,” Barker said.
He said people should show kindness not only to their families and friends but to animals as well during the Christmas season.
PETA noted that more than 50 billion animals are slaughtered and served every year. Globally, more than 3,000 animals are killed in slaughterhouses every second.
