MANILA, Philippines - A woman died while two others were injured as two fires broke out in Manila Wednesday night and before dawn yesterday.
The first fire started just before 8 p.m. at the second floor of an apartment rented by Maribel Zamora, 41, along Tejeron street in Sta. Ana, Fire Superintendent Jaime Ramirez said.
Zamora was not able to get out of her apartment and firefighters found her body when they were conducting mopping-up operations.
The blaze, which destroyed P300,000 worth of property, reached third alarm before it was put out at past 9 p.m.
Another fire occurred at a unit occupied by lawyer Cipriano Farrales on Gonzales street in Ermita shortly before 2 a.m. yesterday.
Froilan delos Reyes, 17, and his sister, Kenny Rose, 19, suffered burns. Firefighters declared the fire under control a few minutes after it broke out.
