MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan 1st District Rep. Recom Echiverri yesterday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor in a bid to regain the city’s top post from Mayor Oscar Malapitan.
Echiverri met with his supporters at the San Roque Cathedral in front of the city hall before marching to the nearby local Commission on Elections office to file his COC at past 8 a.m.
“We need a leadership based not on hatred and vindictiveness but on performance and unity,” the former three-termer mayor told his supporters.
Echiverri is running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
Last week, the administration Liberal Party and opposition United Nationalist Alliance and Partido ng Masang Pilipino formed an alliance to form a new local political party – Tao ang Una – to boost the candidacy of Malapitan, LP stalwart and 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice, and Vice Mayor Macario Asistio III.
The group is supported by Caloocan’s big political names, including former mayors Macario Asistio II, Rey Malonzo, former vice mayor Tito Varela and former congressmen Luis Asistio and Aurora Henson, among others.
Echiverri, however, remains unfazed to regain the Caloocan mayor’s post.
