MANILA, Philippines - The wife of Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Jr. is running for mayor in the 2016 elections.
Menchie Abalos will file her certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections office in the city today.
Mayor Abalos, who is now on his third and last term, earlier said he would retire from government service.
House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales Jr. is also giving way to his wife, Quennie.
Like Mayor Abalos, Gonzales is on his last term as Mandaluyong congressman.
