MANILA, Philippines - A 71-year-old businesswoman was shot dead in Malate, Manila Saturday night.
Nora Eubanas, of Taft Avenue, was in her sport utility vehicle driven by her grandson Michael, 22, when an unidentified assailant shot her in front of the Malate Church at around 7 p.m.
Reports said Eubanas was seated in the back of the car with her sister-in-law Adela Euchanico when the gunman approached from behind and shot the victim twice in the head.
Eubanas died at the scene. Michael was hit by glass shards and taken to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for treatment.
Witnesses said the assailant escaped on foot toward Remedios street after the attack.
Case investigator Senior Police Officer 2 Jonathan Bautista said he went to PGH to talk to Michael but he was not given access by doctors.
Bautista told The STAR that Eubanas’ children refused to give details of the incident to the police.
“It’s unusual that the victim’s children seem uncooperative. But they told me they would give me a call after the burial of their mother,” he said.
Bautista said he would dig deeper into the case to establish the motive for the killing.
