MANILA, Philippines — Priests are sinners and need to go to confession, an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines said yesterday.
“Although we are ordained, we also have to confess our sins just like the ordinary faithful and to reconcile ourselves with the Lord… We are just as guilty of sins,” San Fernando, Pampanga Auxiliary Bishop Pablo Virgilio David said in an interview over Church-run Radio Veritas.
David, who chairs the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate, said confession helps priests become worthy of giving absolution to those who seek forgiveness for their sins.
“When we confess our sins, it means we are humble enough to ask the Lord forgiveness for them,” he said.
