MANILA, Philippines - A 47-year-old man was arrested at a shopping mall in Baclaran, Pasay City yesterday morning for impersonating a police officer.
Dannie Ting was wearing a police uniform – which bore patches identifying him as assigned to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and his rank as a chief inspector – when he was apprehended at the Bagong Milenyo mall, according to acting city police chief Senior Superintendent Sidney Hernia.
Police Officers 3 Pio Tabirao and Eulalio Corpuz arrived at the mall at around 10 a.m. and arrested Ting after the suspect could not produce a Philippine National Police identification card.
Ting claimed to be a member of the NCRPO’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and that he was at the mall on a secret mission.
Ting is being held at the Pasay police headquarters. He faces charges of usurpation of authority and illegal use of uniforms and insignia.
