MANILA, Philippines - Three persons were injured when a 40-footer shipping container fell on a jeepney along Quirino Highway in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.
Arnel Griego had stopped his jeepney (PXE-134) at a red light at the highway’s intersection with Tandang Sora Avenue when the shipping container came loose as the truck turned to a gasoline station, according to traffic investigator Eddie Maglinte.
The container landed on the rear of the jeepney, trapping the passengers inside the vehicle. Three of the passengers were taken to the East Avenue Medical Center. One of them, a 14-year-old girl, was reported to be in critical condition – she was seated in the rear of the vehicle.
The truck was identified as that of Mighty Servant Freight and bore the license plate number RGU-788.
The truck driver, who remains unidentified, fled the scene of the accident. He will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property with multiple physical injuries, Maglinte said.
