MANILA, Philippines - With the Christmas holiday shopping starting to peak, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Carmelo Valmoria yesterday ordered security to be tightened at Divisoria and other flea markets in Metro Manila.
“We should be in every nook and corner of Metro Manila, especially in busy areas like Divisoria and the ‘tiangge’ in Tutuban, Sucat and Baclaran in Paranaque City,” Valmoria said in his directive to the NCRPO’s five district directors.
The NCRPO chief noted that holiday shoppers, especially those from the provinces, flock to flea markets in Metro Manila to buy cheap goods as gifts.
Valmoria warned the district directors and 38 station commanders that police officers should be visible at these flea markets to prevent robbers and thieves from striking.
He also appealed to shoppers not to show off jewelry or valuables while at the flea markets since they would only attract snatchers or muggers.
