MANILA, Philippines - Police have arrested in Manila the most wanted man in Cuartero, Capiz, who had been in hiding for 17 years.
Jimmy Haluan, who is facing murder charges, did not resist arrest when cornered by policemen at Pier 2, North Harbor in Port Area last week, National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Carmelo Valmoria said.
Valmoria said the arrest of Haluan was part of the NCRPO’s efforts to boost the campaign against crime, especially this Christmas season.
The NCRPO chief believes that putting wanted persons behind bars is a significant factor in reducing crimes.
Operatives from the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 11 and Capiz police apprehended the suspect after weeks of surveillance.
Haluan, who has a pending arrest warrant for murder issued in 1997, was the 69th fugitive arrested by the MPD since January.
