‘Undas generally peaceful’

MANILA, Philippines – The observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day nationwide was “generally peaceful,” the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.

On instructions of Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, the PNP will remain on alert until today for the surge of travelers returning to Metro Manila after the holiday.

PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor said no major crime incidents were reported from 17 police regional offices during the weekend.

“It was peaceful and orderly, except for two reported incidents in Bulacan and Bohol, ” Mayor said.

Police said Christian Bertiz was stabbed by Paulo Mendoza at the Baliwag Memorial Cemetery Saturday night.

Michael Buaya, on the other hand, was wounded after he accidentally fired his gun at the Carmen cemetery in Bohol.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will secure more than 100 bus terminals in the metropolis to ensure the safety of the public.

“We will maintain our security deployment in bus terminals as we expect the influx of travelers arriving from the provinces,” NCRPO chief Director Carmelo Valmoria said.
