Detained PNP exec rushed to hospital

MANILA, Philippines - A retired police general, detained for his alleged involvement in the ghost repairs of V-150 armored personnel carriers of the Philippine National Police (PNP), was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pain yesterday.

Charlemagne Alejandrino, who is locked up at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center, complained of chest pain at around 6:25 a.m. yesterday. He was immediately rushed to the PNP General Hospital.

Alejandrino’s medical condition stabilized by around 10:20 a.m. but he remained under observation at the hospital’s emergency room, said Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP public information office chief.

Alejandrino served as vice chairman of the PNP’s bids and award committee. His co-accused are former PNP chief Avelino Razon Jr. and other former officials, including former PNP comptrollers Eliseo de la Paz and Geary Barias and former bids and awards committee head Reynaldo Varilla.

Last year, the Sandiganbayan ordered their arrest in connection with the fictitious repair and maintenance of light armored vehicles worth P358.48 million in 2007.
