MANILA, Philippines - An unidentified man was killed and a student was hospitalized after they were hit by buses in two separate incidents in Caloocan and Valenzuela cities yesterday.
The man was walking in front of a gasoline station along Urbano street just before 3 a.m. when he was hit by a bus, described by a witness as one whose rear was painted in green and had an advertisement for a soy sauce brand, Senior Inspector Pablo Temenia, chief of the Caloocan City police traffic division, said.
The bus ran over the victim and dragged him for a few meters but the driver did not stop, Temenia said.
The victim’s body was brought to the Oak Leaf Funeral Parlor while probers are still trying to find out the identity of the driver.
The victim, estimated to be at least 30 years old, was clad in a black t-shirt and denim shorts.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Miguel Angelo Enriquez was reported to be in critical condition at the Our Lady of Fatima Medical Center after he was sideswiped by a bus in Valenzuela City shortly before 7 a.m. yesterday.
Enriquez was walking on the sidewalk in front of a supermarket along McArthur Highway when a King Sam Bus Lines unit hit him.
The bus driver, Santiago Cruz, 53, surrendered to the police and was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries.
