FDA warns vs whitening capsules

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Food and Drug Administration warned the public yesterday against taking a brand of skin whitening capsules with “unacceptable claims.”

“Luxxe Whitening, Enhanced Glutathione” capsules were being advertised and sold in the country though they are not registered with the FDA as a drug or food supplement, FDA director general Kenneth Hartigan-Go said.

The product is touted on its Facebook page as having the capacity “to remove blemishes, pimples and acne problems; clean internal organs especially the liver; detoxify the body and destroy free radicals that may lead to cancer and protect the cell,” Go said.

He added that the Facebook page claims the product is FDA approved, passed halal standards and received various awards.
