MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government has announced the closure of a road in La Loma today to pave way for the celebration of the first ever La Loma Lechon Festival.
In a traffic advisory, the city government said Calavite street will be closed to vehicular traffic from noon to 6 p.m. for the scheduled parade.
Large vehicles bound for Manila via N.S. Amoranto (Retiro) were advised to use Bonifacio Avenue or the thoroughfares along Welcome Rotonda.
All small vehicles plying N.S. Amoranto will be allowed up to Dr. Alejo street for the duration of the festival. However, they are still advised to instead use A. Maceda street to avoid heavy traffic.
As part of the rerouting plan, all small vehicles coming from Manila bound for Quezon City may also pass through the Paang Bundok area by turning right at Dr. Alejo street or any street thereafter.
The city said its department of public order and safety, in close coordination with the Quezon City Police District, will oversee traffic and security management plans during the La Loma Lechon Festival.
The parade will feature roasted pigs dressed in costumes on top of floats.
More than 20 roasted pigs sponsored by the La Loma Lechoneros Association, Inc., neighborhood associations, non-government organizations, barangays and other sectoral groups will be paraded during the event.
The two-kilometer parade will kick off at Calavite street, home to some of the country’s famous lechon makers.
Mayor Herbert Bautista and Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte – who also sits as the city’s tourism czar – are expected to lead city officials in the celebration.
