MANILA, Philippines - The Pasig River ferry service starts its commercial run today with eight ferry boats being deployed by Orient Craft, a private ferry service company, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the ferry service starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
Tickets will be issued by the MMDA at the five ferry terminals along the river. The terminals are located at Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City, Guadalupe in Makati, and at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Escolta and Plaza Mexico in Intramuros, all in Manila.
According to the MMDA, the fare from Pinagbuhatan to Guadalupe, Guadalupe to PUP, Guadalupe to Escolta and Guadalupe to Plaza Mexico is P50 while the fare for PUP-Escolta and Escolta-Plaza Mexico is P30.
Tolentino said the MMDA still offers free rides on its three ferries to Divisoria shoppers. He said the free rides will be from Guadalupe to Escolta, the nearest terminal to Divisoria, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 17 and 24.
