MANILA, Philippines - Customs officers confiscated 16 bullets and a sachet of marijuana leaves from a Filipino who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 Sunday night from Honolulu, Hawaii.
Jefferson Garalde, 42, of Noveleta, Cavite, was held for questioning after the 9mm bullets and the marijuana leaves were found in his balikbayan box. He was supposed to board a connecting flight for Laoag City.
NAIA customs police chief Reggie Tuason said Garalde, when asked about the contents of the balikbayan box, said a friend in Honolulu asked him to bring it to the Philippines.
Officials said Garalde will be charged with violating drug and gun laws before the Pasay prosecutor’s office.
