MANILA, Philippines - Concerts to be held at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum or any other venue in Quezon City will now be required to change the phrase “Live in Manila†in posters and advertisement to “Live in Quezon City, Metro Manila.â€
The Quezon City council approved on third and final reading a measure that will penalize producers and organizers who fail to include such phrases, as well as the logo of the city government, in event advertisements.
The measure – which has yet to be signed into law by Mayor Herbert Bautista – will impose a P5,000 fine on anyone who will fail to follow the ordinance, which was principally authored by sixth district Councilor Roger Juan.
“Many of the promotional advertisements of these events are being advertised such as ‘To be performed live in Manila’ although the event was not performed in the City of Manila but in Quezon City,†read the measure.
“In order to promote Quezon City as an ideal place for such events and in line with the city’s effort to promote Quezon City as an important tourist destination, advertisements and promotions of these concerts, events and other similar exhibitions shall include such phrase as ‘Live in Quezon City, Metro Manila’ or simply ‘Quezon City, Philippines,’†it added.
The measure said the fines collected will fund the tourism program of the city.
