MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City government’s enforcers will use wheel clamps on cars that are illegally parked in the city’s central business district (CBD), Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay said Wednesday.
He said the city’s traffic code was recently amended to integrate the city government-sanctioned on-street parking regulations at its CBD and authorize the use of wheel clamps on illegally parked vehicles instead of having them towed.
Under the CBD’s current rules, parking is allowed only within spaces marked with white “T†lines and for a maximum period of three hours only. Upon the expiration of the allotted three-hour limit for parking, a vehicle will be deemed “illegally parked.â€
White “T†slots, designated either as one-side or both-side parking, allow the parking of vehicles from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Motorcycles are charged parking fees at P20 per hour and other vehicles P40 for the first two hours and P50 for the next hour. All vehicles that exceed the three-hour limit will be wheel-clamped.
However, a time restriction is implemented on particular streets wherein parking at specific periods is considered “illegal parking†and the vehicle will be towed.
The streets covered by the time restriction are: Amorsolo (Dela Rosa – Urban), Amorsolo (Dela Rosa – VA Rufino) and Legaspi, all in Legaspi Village, which disallow parking from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For Salcedo Village, Leviste (VA Rufino – Sedeño) and Leviste (Villar – Velasquez) parking is not allowed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
