MANILA, Philippines - A 73-year-old businessman was shot in front of his home in Barangay Sagad, Pasig City yesterday.
Rodolfo Oregas died on the spot from seven gunshot wounds in the body.
Police Officer 3 Rusthom Valdez said Oregas, who owned apartments in Pasig, was attending to something in front of the A-Site Internet Café on Dr. Pilapil street when he was attacked at around 4 a.m.
A witness told police he was playing computer games at the shop when he heard gunshots and ducked for cover. When he peered outside the shop, he saw the gunman, wearing a black jacket and a baseball cap, get into an orange tricycle with body number 328 – apparently driven by an accomplice.
As the tricycle driver sped away, the witness saw the victim sprawled in the middle of the road.
Valdez said police officers recovered two slugs from an unknown caliber of firearm at the crime scene.
Chief Inspector Glenn Magsino, head of the Pasig police’s criminal investigation section, suspects that the killer has been waiting in the area for Oregas.
He said they are investigating Oregas’ background to determine if he had any enemies. The Pasig City police is also looking for surveillance camera videos showing the attack or Oregas’ killers as they fled.
