MANILA, Philippines - China remains to be the top supplier of illegal drugs to the Philippines, an official of the anti-drug unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.
Senior Superintendent Bartolome Tobias, chief of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF), claimed most of the shabu in the Philippines are made in China or made by Chinese based in the country.
He cited as an example the case of convicted Chinese drug lord Jackson Dy, who yielded 432 kilos of shabu with a street value of P2 billion in 2007.
During AIDSOTF’s 10th anniversary celebration, Tobias said they are also tracking members of West African groups, who continue to use Filipinos as drug mules.
“We pursue aggressively the negation and overall campaign against illegal drugs in coordination with other agencies especially with the lead agency, the PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency),†he said.
