18 game fowl eggs seized at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines - At least 18 eggs were confiscated from a Filipino fighting cock breeder who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Guam Friday afternoon.

Danilo Laquindan of Pampanga was accosted for hand-carrying the eggs because he failed to present an import permit and veterinary health certificate to prove his importation was legal, according to veterinary doctor Nilo Crystal.

Laquindan said he did not know that bringing in eggs was illegal because he had brought game fowl eggs into the country before. The eggs are from the bloodline of a fighting cock that won the seven-cock derby in Guam months ago, he added.

Crystal said hatching game fowl eggs, which takes 20 to 21 days, has become an extremely lucrative profession because of the demand for fighting cocks. The secret to strong and healthy fighting cocks is properly incubating the eggs, he added.
