QC cop axed over ‘messy’ police station

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - For failing to maintain what was once touted as a “model police station,” a Quezon City police commander was relieved from his post by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo Jr. yesterday.

Garbo relieved Superintendent Danilo Pecana as chief of the Libis police station, according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano.

“He did not pass the standards of the regional director,” Albano said, citing Garbo’s earlier directive ordering police officers to look dignified and presentable.

“His whole office was messy,” Albano added.

The QCPD chief said Garbo was disappointed after seeing the unkempt condition of the newest QC police station.

The station, located in Eastwood City, opened in 2009 and was once touted as a “model” police station.

Albano said the NCRPO chief was surprised when he learned of the police station’s messy condition.

“The business sector in Eastwood donated that station to us. We have to take care of that building,” said Albano.

An earlier report said the Eastwood City Estate Association financed the construction of the two-storey building amounting to P20 million.

“I reminded him twice before to maintain the station and keep it orderly. But improvements and corrections were unexpectedly slow in coming. As a leader, you have to be responsible enough to immediately make the necessary adjustments when your attention is called to make them,” Albano said.

He said there is no decision yet on who will replace Pecana.
