6 Makati gov’t employees sacked over shabu use

MANILA, Philippines - Six Makati City government employees were dismissed from service yesterday after testing positive for shabu.

Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay said he ordered the dismissal of the six employees, who were among the 90 persons who tested positive for shabu use out of a total of 2,337 workers tested by the Makati Anti-Drug Abuse Council during the first six months of the year.

According to Binay, aside from termination, the sacked employees – four casual employees, a regular employee and a “job order” employee – are also facing sanctions in accordance with the guidelines for a “drug-free workplace in the bureaucracy” under a Civil Service Commission memorandum.

He also expressed dismay over the number of barangay personnel found positive for shabu – 80 out of 1,450 barangay personnel tested – and urged barangay leaders to take appropriate action to weed out substance abusers and possible drug pushers from their workforce.
